Spy x Family is pure joy. The premise—a spy, an assassin, and a telepath forming a fake family—could have gone dark, but instead, we got the most wholesome anime of the year. Anya is adorable and the source of endless memes. Watching Loid and Yor slowly become a real family while maintaining their secrets is heartwarming. The comedy is on point, the action when it happens is great, and the emotional moments hit. This is the perfect anime to watch with family or friends who don't usually watch anime.
Hunter x Hunter subverts shounen expectations at every turn. The power system (Nen) is complex and strategic. Gon is an unconventional protagonist—his dark side in the Chimera Ant arc shocked me. Speaking of which, the Chimera Ant arc is the best arc in shounen anime. The pacing is deliberate, the character development is phenomenal, and Meruem's transformation from monster to human is beautiful tragedy. The narrator adds so much tension. My only gripe? We'll probably never get the Dark Continent arc animated. Hiatus x Hiatus is real.
Let's be honest—the first half with L is peak psychological thriller. The cat-and-mouse game between Light and L is absolutely gripping. Every episode ends on a cliffhanger. The mind games are brilliant. But after episode 25, the quality drops significantly. The new characters don't have the same impact, and Light's plot armor becomes ridiculous. The ending is satisfying, but the journey there is much weaker. Still worth watching for the first half alone.
Violet Evergarden is KyoAni's magnum opus. The animation quality is absurd—every single frame is wallpaper-worthy. But it's not just pretty; it's deeply emotional. Watching Violet learn about human emotions through writing letters is beautiful storytelling. Episodes 7 and 10 absolutely destroyed me. I was sobbing. The episodic nature works perfectly, allowing each story to breathe. If you want to feel things, watch this anime. Bring tissues.
This show is pure joy. Anya is the cutest character in anime history and I will die on this hill. The spy/assassin premise could have gone dark but instead we got a heartwarming family comedy. Watching Loid and Yor slowly become a real family while hiding their identities is peak entertainment. Perfect comfort watch.
One Punch Man season 1 is what happens when you give a passionate studio unlimited creative freedom. Madhouse's sakuga animation is some of the best ever produced. Every fight is a spectacle. The comedy works perfectly, and Saitama's deadpan reactions never get old. Then J.C.Staff took over for season 2, and the drop in quality is painful. The story is still good, but the animation doesn't do it justice. This review is for season 1 specifically—that's the 9/10 experience.
The final season was everything I hoped for. The reveal that there's a whole world outside the walls completely changed the story's scope. Eren's transformation from hero to anti-hero is tragic and brilliantly executed. The Marley arc added so much depth, making you sympathize with former enemies. The final battle was epic, and the ending, while controversial, felt earned. Yes, it's dark and depressing, but it's also a powerful story about cycles of hatred and the cost of freedom. Mappa did an incredible job with the animation despite the tight schedule.
Your Name is a visual spectacle that also tells a compelling story. The body-swap premise is used brilliantly to explore identity and connection. The plot twist hits hard, and the final act is emotionally charged. Shinkai's signature beautiful backgrounds are here in full force. The soundtrack by RADWIMPS is perfect. This movie made me cry in theaters. It's a modern classic that deserves all the praise it gets. The only reason it's not a 10 is because 5 Centimeters Per Second hit me even harder emotionally.
Tried watercolor for the first time and painted the iconic comet scene. Not perfect but I'm proud of how the sky turned out. Any tips from experienced artists?
The first 12 episodes tested my patience. Lots of otaku humor and seemingly random slice-of-life moments. But I'm so glad I stuck with it. Episode 12 hits like a truck, and from there it's a non-stop emotional rollercoaster. The time travel mechanics are surprisingly well-thought-out, and the consequences of Okabe's actions feel real and devastating. The relationship between Okabe and Kurisu is one of anime's best romances. The final episodes had me in tears. My only complaint is the slow start, but it makes the payoff even more impactful.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood does everything right. The world-building is phenomenal, with alchemy feeling like a real science with clear rules and limitations. Every character, even minor ones, feels important to the story. The Elric brothers' journey is emotional and compelling. The homunculi are fantastic villains with depth. The action is top-tier, the comedy lands, and the emotional beats hit hard. The ending wraps everything up perfectly without feeling rushed. If you can only watch one shounen anime, make it this one.
Cowboy Bebop isn't just anime—it's a masterclass in storytelling. The jazz-infused soundtrack by Yoko Kanno elevates every scene, creating an atmosphere that's simultaneously melancholic and thrilling. Each episode feels like a short film, with the episodic format allowing for diverse storytelling while slowly revealing the tragic pasts of our protagonists. Spike's journey, Faye's amnesia, Jet's lost love—every character is perfectly crafted. The animation still holds up incredibly well, especially the fluid action sequences. This is the anime I recommend to people who claim they don't like anime. It's just that good. A perfect 10.
After rewatching Cowboy Bebop for the 5th time, I'm convinced it's one of the best anime ever made. The episodic storytelling, the jazz soundtrack, and the character development are all perfect...
Unpopular opinion: Demon Slayer is massively overrated. Yes, ufotable's animation is stunning. The Hinokami Kagura episode 19 was incredible. But remove the animation and what do you have? A very by-the-numbers shounen with a bland protagonist, one-note villains, and predictable plot beats. Tanjiro is too perfect—he has no real flaws. Nezuko is a plot device. The comedy is often poorly timed. It's enjoyable popcorn entertainment, but it's not the masterpiece people claim it is.
